Down a Dark Hall...
Kathryn Gordy has been accepted into one of the finest boarding schools while her parents are away on vacation.Atfirst she is terribly excited because her best friend Tracy is accompaning her. This adventure could not get any better for the both of them.Sadly, as they receive their welcome letters, the ambicious girls find out that one of them, was not accepted into Blackwood.Devistated, Kit refuses to leave her "sister" behind for months to come.Unfortunitely, she must go.Finally as her mother and Dan-Kit's mom's husband-draws the car to a stop, she figures they are at Blackwood, but to her surprise Kit, her mother and Dan were at a gas station. It was as if they were in a ghost town. Not a person in sight.Except for the gasman."Hello,"he welcomed them with a warm smile and emediately only Ms.Gordy and Dan felt at home,"how may I help you this fine evening?"As the contagious smile reacted Kit's mother, she asked where Blackwood was. They were taught it was literally right down the road. They thanked him and left.Suddenly as they finally found Blackwood and were driving closer and closer, Kit felt a sudden chill and began to be frightened. She knew there was something strange and peculiar about this place but she could not yet find the correct word for it.You see as the car drew closer the fear in Kit grew wider and finally she found the right word....she wailed to her mother and pleaded to go back for she could not stay in this house.Sadly her mother and Dan refused, they hadn't seen anything the matter.Alll this time kicking, screaming , and wailing, she had thought of the word.....evil.They walked in got greeted and suddenly Kit changed her mind about this place.Inside it felt subtle and warming. She felt at ease.As the days past new comers arrived but, to Kit's surprise there only came three other girls.Kit had imagined tons and tons of girls running down the hall having a splendid time. She didn't mind it, three is better than none.Ruth, Lynda, and Sandy were their names. Her favorite was a short, red head, Sandy. She was kind hearted yet a bit shy.Ruth on the other hand was just the opposite. She was not afraid to share what was in her brainiack head.Lynda was sweet and sassy, walk into her room and you will be bombarded with makeup and beautiful clothing.Lynda and Ruth fit eachothers personalities just right.Ruth needed a bit of sass and Lynda needed some brains.A few months in Blackwood past and strangely, there were a couple dreams here and there. She tried explaining them to the hottie music teacher, Jules. His eyes shined beautifully and black hair, gorgeous. He basically told her that dreams are normal especially in Blackwood. But honestly they weren't dreams at all....they were nightmares.Weird and unexplainable things were occuring at Blackwood.Things that Kit could not understand.Kit new something was going on.She tolerated it until one night...She demanded to awake everyone and explain what was happening. When they finally came down, all except for Lynda because she was basically hypnotized in a deep dark transformation, Madame Duret(the head mistress of Blackwood)was forced to share the news.Basically summing it all up....the girls were to be possesed overnight. In rage Kit threw away every valuable information to Madame Duret in the fire.Shockingly the fire started up and grew onto the curtains. There was a fire in Blackwood.... I loved this book a lot because to me, this topic which fits perfectly in with horror and mistery wasjust amazing. Its a bit more clear if you actually read the book.I would most definitely recommend this book to a friend. Its just so draw dropping and cliff hanging that on the last page you'll wish there was more.Down a Dark Hall is truly one of the best books I have ever read.Hopefully you will love it aswell. In the end what do you think happened to Lynda?Would you like to read this book? How would you feel if this unexplainable things happened to you if you were away to boarding school?

Happiness Over Starvation
Today in America people eat for happiness. The percentage of adults twenty and over that are obese is 69.2 %.The reason is more than three quarters of these men and women eat for fun, not when they are hungry. What about the children in Africa who are starving with diseases and health problems?Who is watching out for them? Why are we sitting here and waiting for something to happen when we have to make the first step?Yes, there are some camps but the government doesnt put enough money towards them.It isnt just in Africa, starvation is everywhere. And we all know that world hunger won't end tomorrow , but we can start doing something more than just eating for the fun of it. Honestly, in my opinion something needs to be done about this.We dont want to be known for survival of the fittest. That isnt right. We need to help or fellow friends for the better.Ever heard of the greater good?Exactly, make a difference for someone other than yourself.Who knows you might recieve something in return. How do you feel about all this? What are you willing to do?
Best of 2013!!!
2013 was amazing. So many extroardinary and exciting things happened.Like Paul Walker's death, "What Does The Fox Say?!", Boston Marrathon, etc.All of this was literally a punch in the face exspecially how fast 2013 went by. First it was ....When two pressure cookers exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, the blast killed three people, injured more than 260 others, and put an entire nation on edge. The bombs — a crude mix of nails and shrapnel that tore through the crowd of cheering spectators, volunteers and proud, almost-finished runners — instantly transformed a moment of shared joy into one of collective terror. On April 17, the FBI sought the public’s help in identifying grainy surveillance images of two young men thought to be the perpetrators. The search took a violent turn just hours later when brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev allegedly shot and killed an MIT police officer and then exchanged fire with police as they tried to escape in a hijacked SUV. Tamerlan, 26, was killed in the fracas; his younger brother, Dzhokhar, 19, managed to escape. As day broke April 18, state officials shut down Boston area public transit and urged residents to “shelter in place” behind locked doors, effectively paralyzing a major American city. Police ultimately found a bloodied and dazed Dzhokhar hiding in a small boat, in which he allegedly wrote pro-Islamist messages with his own blood. He has pleaded “not guilty” to 30 charges related to the bombing, including 17 punishable by death. —Noah Rayman

Spending ThanksGiving With the Fam
Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States as a day of thanks and blessing of the harvest that was proceeded this year. This is a day to spend time with family and friends. As we all sit by the table and remember the good times. Thankgiving shows us how important that is.Parades and festivals occur in honor of this special day.Schools, businesses, and post offiices are closed. In my opinion I think a lot more people should really focus on the importance of this holiday.Yes, theres parades and no school ,but honestly most children probably stay home not caring and even if they did go to their families, Thanksgiving doesnt mean that much to them.Schools need to teach more about this topic because its something that happened in our history that we should not forget.

WHY DOES GLASS HAVE EARS?
At one time or another, most of us have seen a cartoon in which an opera singer uses her powerful voice to shatter glass. But can a human being really do that? The answer might surprise you because science says yes!
The laws of physics show that every piece of glass — actually, every material on Earth — has a natural resonant frequency. That frequency is the speed at which it will vibrate if struck.
For example, wine glasses are especially resonant because of their hollow, tubular shape. If you flick a wine glass with your finger, you will hear a ringing sound.
The resonant frequency of a glass could be any particular musical note. It just depends on the glass and how was made. If a singer sings the same musical note that matches the resonant frequency of the glass, the sound waves will vibrate the air particles around the glass at its resonant frequency. This will make the glass begin to vibrate, too. If a singer sings loudly enough, the vibrations can cause the glass to vibrate so hard that the glass shatters under the strain.

Experts believe a singer has to be both very good and very lucky to break a glass with the voice alone. But it can be done…
For example, very fine, leaded crystal glasses are more fragile than others. Thus, it may be easier to break such a glass than a thick water glass.
Volume is another key factor. The louder the sound, the more air it displaces. Singing more loudly thus results in sound waves hitting a glass with greater force.
Breaking glass with an amplified voice has been demonstrated many times. A human voice without amplification, though, will usually fail unless the glass is quite fragile.
In 2005, the Discovery Channel television show MythBusters proved that a voice alone could break glass. Rock singer Jamie Vendera shattered a wine glass with a 105-decibel wail. By comparison, normal speech is usually around 50 decibels.
So do you have to have natural talent to break glass with just your voice? Not necessarily… but it couldn’t hurt! Finding the right note to shatter a glass will be easier if you’re a naturally talented singer.
Sometimes people are born with certain talents. At other times, people work very hard to develop skills they have into true talents.
For example, opera singers often must train for years. Many other famous performers and athletes, like Taylor Swift and Apolo Ohno, also have had years of training.

ADs ADs and plenty more ADs
Have you wondered how many ads there are in the world?Plenty. What different types are there or what needs to be included in one?Make sure that when you are watching a commercial, ad, etc these are included in there.#1 ad , for example has Snob Appeal: Only "special people" use this, therefore you want to use it.This grabs every one's attention, so that they would purchase this product.Another technique that the second commercial has is :Emotional Appeal which means it gives us feeling. In the ad it brought all our memories from the 90s. Name-calling ;uses negative words and bad names to create fear and dislike for peoples , ideas, or institutions.Plain folks; is designed to send the message that a product or person is "just like you" All commercials must have at least Bandwagon, part of the "in crowd."Endorcement, when an expert recommends the product, Snob appeal and Emotional appeal. This would make it successful. In my opinion...I enjoy the different techniques in these ads , my favorite is emotional appeal. They make the experience so much more interesting.Don't you agree?Sadly , though, not all commercials are happy and fun for example ; This commercial is one of the most depressing one I've seen so far, although, you have to agree that we all smiled in the end. What kind of techniques do you prefer in a commercial?I love how commercials can do things to you, not just play with your feelings but change your life. For example;the nice woman changed the blind mans sign to better words. Before she did you can see the rudeness of us greedy civilians. This makes you feel terrible , but kinder. We all need ads to keep us in check. TOP 10 COMMERCIALS #1.In this commercial the company is trying to sell men's deodorant. This gets people interested by using lizards.Where you interested? This would be somewhat of snob appeal. #2This was made to sell Katy Perry's new fragrance.Where you mesmerized?I know I was.I would call this snob appeal(used by a celebrity.) #3Obviously this commercial has emotional appeal. As you can see the young boy comes and needs to work harder in order to succeed. When he does he is welcome , but needs to have THE symbol. He figures out that in order for that to happen he smashes his head on the PEPSI can. #4This in my opinion is an example of ...emotional appeal. Its hilarious in every way possible. What do you think?A cat is TALKING.What if you were a cat who lived with this one what would you talk about besides litter/sand boxes? #5In this commercial Party City is trying to sell their products/costumes by presenting actors/actresses.This gives you an image in your mind on how you would look.Accept, because they are professionals they do make it look amazing. #6This ad shows the wonders of FaceTime . It is also great because not only does it get costumers interested in FaceTime, but all Iphone like products. Top 4 most common techniques. #7
Claims
Advertising that promotes specific features or makes claims about what a product or service can do for the potential customers provides successful results by informing, educating and developing expectations in the buyer. Claims can state facts or simply use hype, such as calling one brand of orange juice "the best" when nutritionally it is identical to other brands. Claims may mislead through omission or by using what some advertisers and political campaigners call "weasel words." These are subtle statement modifiers that render the claim meaningless if studied closely. Common weasel words include "helps," "fights" and "virtually."
#8 Association
Associating a product or company with a famous person, catchy jingle, desirable state of being or powerful emotion creates a strong psychological connection in the customer. Sporting equipment companies use successful athletes in their ads, automakers display their cars in front of mansions, brewers show their beer consumed by groups of friends having fun and cosmetic companies sign celebrities to represent their products. These ads encourage an emotional response in customers, which then is linked to the product being advertised, making it attractive through transference.
#9 Bandwagon
The bandwagon technique sells a product or service by convincing the customer that others are using it and they should join the crowd. Other bandwagon advertisements suggest that the customer will be left out if they do not buy what's being sold. These ads often employ "glittering generalities," words linked to highly valued ideas or concepts that evoke instant approval, which may or may not relate to the subject of the advertisement. "America loves..." connects patriotism with a product, creating an automatic positive response.
#10 Promotions
Coupons, sweepstakes, games with prizes and gifts with purchases create excitement, and participation encourages customers to build a relationship with the sponsoring product or service. The attraction of getting something "free" or earning "rewards" makes promotions successful. Limited-time offers and entry deadlines add urgency to this advertising technique's call to action. CHALLENGE;Think of your most favorite commercial. What technique does it use, and give examples how?
